I love long plane rides. It’s the only time I can sit back and watch half a dozen movies in succession. But if you’re to ask me what the movies are about, I’ll probably mix them all up into one mega movie…except for one very distinctive movie. I saw “Kick-Ass” (based on the comic book series of the same name) on a recent plane ride and it pretty much blew me away. I always thought superhero movies are more or less the same featuring a host of unstable individuals with a penchant for tight, shiny costumes, gadgetry, and world domination whose plans are thwarted by someone just as unstable and costume-happy as they are. But “Kick- Ass” isn’t like most superhero movies. For one thing, most of the superheroes are kids. For another, it has a lot more down-to-earth violence than an average superhero action movie. It stuck with me long after the plane landed and here they are:

The kids of “Kick-Ass.”

I decided not to include Big Daddy, since his costume looked a little too much like a low-rent Batman.

Dave Lizewski, who one day decided to order a diving suit online, pair it up with work boots and dish washing gloves, and become a real life superhero.

The amazing Hit Girl. I so want to be her when I grow up.

Red Mist. He’s fun and he’s evil. Is he a villain in the making?

Whew! Now that I got it all out of my system, it’s back to painting cute little hedgehogs and toadstools I go…but not before I play “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the Both of Us” by the Sparks one more time!
